TIP
Achieving
Desired Splits
When a Besser S63 Splitter blade starts to wear, the top will begin to round off. If
your splits aren’t what you desire, check to see if the top of the blade
is well rounded. If not, you may need to replace your blades. If
part of the blade is flat, the block sliding over the wear plate will also
be contacting the blade. Check the following to achieve desired splits:
- Check the wear plate
for excessive wear. If it’s worn through half way, replace it.
- Check to see if your
splitting mechanism is set too high. Adjust the square head bolts on
the bottom of the splitter.
- Check the blades to
see if any debris has built up under them. Pull the blades and clean
under them.
- If only one blade is
worn, check the spring tension on your adjustments, you may have weak
or broken springs. If one set of adjusting bolts are in a long ways
preventing you from further adjustment, buy replacement springs.
The splitter blades
should be penetrating the block about 3/16". If you show wear further
down on your blades, you are penetrating too deeply. This can cause your
upper blade to strike the side knives resulting in damage and voiding
warranty. Keep your adjustments in check.
