Split-Fluted
Concrete Units
Obtaining a uniform appearance on the
split-face surface of split-fluted concrete units can be extremely
difficult.
This is due to the position of the core
bar, which prevents the concrete from completely filling the area directly
underneath it, thus preventing direct compaction of that surface.
Consequently, the finish on the upper part of the concrete unit is never
identical to the lower part (see Illustration A).
By using a different set up that includes
a center plunger, and fluted cores that are held by two core bars (see
Illustration B), this problem can be eliminated.
It is also possible to
personalize the look of the split-face concrete unit by modifying the
stripper shoes (Illustration C).
