SERVICE TIP

Overhead Side Feed Tier Pusher Combination Maintenance

Before doing any service or maintenance on any machine, follow all lockout procedures. This should include:

  1. Disconnect the electrical power supply.
  2. Relieve the pressure from the hydraulic system (check the pressure gauge on the power unit to make sure it reads zero).
  3. Mechanically secure any part of the machine that may shift while doing maintenance.

Side Feed Table

Check the side feed spools and belts for wear and replace if necessary. Remove the rollers to gain access to the spools and belts. Unbolt the shaft bearings and unfasten the drive coupling to remove the shaft. Check the bearings at this time, and replace if worn. This is also a good time to rebuild or replace the motor if it leaks. When replacing the spools, belts, or rollers, be sure to re-install the belts in the same direction as they were removed. Failure to do this will result in some, or all of the rollers turning in the wrong direction. Check the cross rollers for wear. The cross rollers should be even with the tier table wear plates. To do this, adjust the set screws located under the ends and middle of the rollers.

Side Feed Carriage Drive

Tighten the side feed Chains (See Figure 1) and the motor drive chain and replace if worn. Grease the bearings. Check the drive sprockets and replace if worn. Check the motor and replace or rebuild if it leaks.  Also, check the idler sprockets for wear, and replace if necessary.

Side Feed Carriage Assembly

The side feed carriage has 12 camrol bearings. If the 8 main camrols need replacing, they can be accessed from the holes (See Figure 2) in the side feed track. Move the carriage forward until the camrols are in line with the holes in the track. Replace one at a time. The camrols (See Figure 3) on the side of the carriage are used for keeping the carriage in the center of the track. The side thrust camrols may need to be adjusted to touch the tracks as they wear. To do this, with the carriage in the home position, loosen the jam nuts on the adjusting bolts.

Loosen the camrols a little and adjust in. They should touch with a slight drag when tight. Replace if worn.

The side feed carriage has 1 lift cylinder. Check to make sure the cylinder mounting brackets are not loose. If the cylinder is leaking, rebuild or replace it. Check the bushings for wear, and replace if necessary. Grease the cylinder pivot pin. (See Figure 4)

If the side feed pusher does not come in contact with the product at the bottom of the pusher, re-adjust the pusher angle using the four angle attaching bolts. There should be a slight gap between the top of the product and the pusher. (See Figure 5)

Tier Table

The tier table chain is tightened on the tier pusher carriage. The two chains must be tightened evenly. Replace the chains and sprockets if worn.

Check the motor for leaks and rebuild or replace if necessary. Check the drive sprockets and motor chain and replace if worn. Grease the two drive bearings and the overhung load adapter. (See Figure 6) There are no grease fittings on the discharge end of the tier pusher. Replace the drive guard when finished.

Check the camrols on the pusher carriage. To replace the camrols, remove the three bolts on the camrol attaching plate. Slide the carriage forward to remove the camrol attaching plates. (See Figure 7)

The wear plates can be replaced by removing the mounting bolts located under the tier table wear plates. Be sure to grind the new portion of the bolts that are above the wear plates after new plate installation.
